Aspyr has posted a beta patch for Civilization IV for the Macintosh. The new patch fixes a nasty bug that caused certain Macs, especially G5's, to run the CPU's excessively. The game should no longer run dual CPU's to 100% capacity. The patch also fixes some missing sounds to play correctly. Other sounds may still be inaudible. A future official release of the Rev A patch will address those.
Here are a few known issues with Civ IV:
If you experience kernel panics on Intel Macs, make sure you have installed the latest version of the OS X 10.4.7 Combo update. If problems persist, turn off FSAA options and/or run the game in a window. The Civilization IV patch is available for download from Macgamefiles.com and weighs in at 15 MB.
- Some sounds will not play, or will play at such low volume they can't be heard.
