GarageGames Torque Shader Interview 8:16 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
HomeLAN Fed has posted the results of a interview with Jay Moore of Garage Games, with the focus being on GG's upcoming Torque Shader Engine. An extension of their popular Torque Engine, the TSE looks to provide a wealth of graphics functionality as well as ease of use. One of the topics discussed include what the early adopter's release of the TSE will have: - Glow and Refraction buffers
- CustomMaterial interface so more advanced programmers can write their own shaders in addition to our procedural system
- Bumpmapping
- Texture animation
- Detail mapping
- Cubemap support (including dynamic cubemaps)
- Specular lighting (per pixel on 2.0 shader hardware)
- Textured fog layers
Moore adds that the full release will include features such as OpenGL support and shader driven water. For those looking for more simple comparisons, Moore mentions that the full release of the TSE will go far beyond the Quake III Engine's capabilities, and be "close on the heels of Unreal 3's next generation graphics technology."
