Epic Unveils Unreal Technology Site 7:47 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
Epic has launched a new site dubbed Unreal Technology, which showcases in detail the power of their next-gen 3D rendering engine. The site highlights the current version of the engine, in use now for games like Unreal Tournament 2004, as well as the upcoming "Unreal Engine 3," supporting the next lineup of games over the coming years. While the site is obviously pitched at those looking to license the engine for their games, the Unreal Engine 3 page provides an amazing glance at the kind of effects upcoming titles will be able to produce. Many impressive screenshots highlight features like soft shadows and volumetric fog. Among the many technical features listed, cross-platform compatibility with the Mac OS is present to hopefully encourage game-makers to broaden their scope when developing new games. For an intriguing peek into the technology behind some of today's most popular games, check out the site. In related news, Epic has also released at new patch for Unreal Tournament 2004 for Windows. No worries though, as the 3204 update does not break network compatibility with earlier versions of the game, and a Mac client update is expected out soon. Stay tuned to IMG for the latest on the patch.
