Duane Johnson Joins Aspyr Media

Aspyr today announced that they have hired Duane Johnson to join their internal development team. He becomes the fourth former Westlake member to join the Aspyr team.

Johnson graduated from Texas A&M University in 1985 with a degree is aerospace engineering. He worked for NASA for 15 years programming a docking simulation that was used to train astronauts. In the late 1990s, Johnson worked on the Descent 3 port for GraphSim and shortly after left his job at NASA to join MacPlay.Johnson recently completed work on Star Trek Elite Force II, with other projects soon to be announced.

After working for MacPlay, Johnson joined Westlake Interactive where he has worked for the past two years. At Westlake he ported eight games, seven of which were Aspyr games, including Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Elite Force II. Other popular titles that Johnson worked on include Elite Force, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, NASCAR Racing 2003 and Halo.
“Duane is an invaluable addition to Aspyr Studios’ programming team, and his knowledge of OpenGL and OS X optimization will help us make even better looking and better performing games,” said Glenda Adams, Aspyr’s director of PC and Mac Development.
Johnson will work from his home in Elgin, Texas where he lives with his family.
