PowerLogix Announces New Dual Processor Upgrades 9:23 AM | Lucian Fong | Comment on this story
PowerLogix announced a new generation of dual processor G4 upgrades for Power Mac G4s. The new dual 1.2 GHz and 1.4 GHz upgrades use Motorola's new PowerPC 7457 processor (a variant of the processor used in Apple's PowerBook G4s), which features 512 KB of L2 on-die cache (double that of the PowerPC 7455). In addition, each processor is outfitted with 2 MB of L3 SDR-memory. PowerLogix claims that this new chip consumes 40% less peak power than it's predecessor, a nagging issue with their older dual processor upgrades. The dual 1.2 GHz and 1.4 GHz G4 upgrades will retail for $799 and $1199, respectively. PowerLogix expects to ship them to retailers within 1 to 2 weeks, though supplies will be constrained on the high end model. The PowerForce G4 cards are compatible with all "AGP Graphics" model, up to and including the QuickSilver 2002.
