GameRanger Premium Adds Voice Chat 6:00 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
The Mac-slanted online gaming service GameRanger recently got bumped up to version 3.4. While other changes were put into place, the main addition to this latest update is the addition of in-voice game communication. While the feature is for Premium subscribers only, it offers a host of options that gamers should find appealing: - No setup required
- Works automatically with most routers (without needing port mapping)
- Automatic team channels with supported games
- Choose the stereo location for channels (eg. All channel on left, Team channel on right)
- Select the sound output device for voice (eg. voice to headset, game sounds to speakers)
- Low latency and low bandwidth
- Hotkeys for All and Team voice, and for muting/unmuting them
- Speech synthesis for in-game command feedback
Other added features include support for Flash and JPEG banners, removal of highlighted URLs by non-Premium subscribers, and instant updates for input devices listed in the Voice Preferences panel. Those interested in downloads or more information on GameRanger can find it at the official site.
