Unreal Tournament 2003 Installation Fix 6:19 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
Most of the Mac gaming community should be well aware by now that Unreal Tournament 2003 has been shipping to retail stores as of late. Unfortunately, some users have reported problems with the installer on the English version of UT2k3. To address this, Ryan Gordon has posted a fix, complete with a download and instructions on how to apply it, at his finger info site. He also offers some insight as to why the crash happens: The retail disc installer apparently calls CFRelease() on an invalid pointer (whoops), which has caused a most unsatisfying crash for a small percentage of people. We never saw this one, but those that trigger it seem to do so reliably. The French CDs have this fix already, so this is just for the English retail version that shipped on June 11th if you crash for no apparent reason after entering your CD key. Those having trouble with their installers are encouraged to try out the fix. Ryan adds that the fix is untested, as he couldn't reproduce the error, but that success reports from Mac gamers are welcome.Haven't gotten your copy of UT 2003 yet? It's now available through the IMG Store.
