A huge new update has been released for the massively multiplayer online war sim World War II Online, bringing the game up to version 1.80 and making a large number of enhancements. Like many other patches for the game, v1.80 updates a large number of gameplay issues like new vehicle improvements, tweaked game rules, and more detailed in-game terrain.
In addition to these changes, the new update also puts in a place a new system for receiving more dynamic updates in the future. Cornered Rat's post explains it as being able to update parts of the game without having to reset servers. Here's more from the initial post:
The new version features a brand new update system that increased the update rate to what players should anticipate seeing in the near future with a new dynamic update system. 3D models and previous in-game animations have all been redone for this new version -- without a doubt they all look a lot better. Players will also notice some new sounds and lighting/smoke effects for explosions and the like. For much more information on what's new in v1.80, check out both the news and ReadMe posts on the World War II Online site. An updater from v1.77 is available along with a 120MB full update download.
Version 1.80 also marks the introduction of the "1941" vehicle set, including the Panzer IIIH, Spitfire Vb, Bf-109F4 and other vehicles and aircraft.
In addition, Inside Mac Games is proud to be partnering with Strategy First and Cornered Rat Software on an upcoming demo trial for the OS X version of World War II Online. More details should be avaiable very soon, but for those who have been wondering whether to make the plunge into the game, soon you'll have a great way to find out.
