More Myst Online Details Revealed 8:59 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
Gaming site Blue's News has noted the recent posting of a piece focusing on the upcoming Myst Online by Ferrago.co.uk. The next evolution in the popular Myst series, Myst Online is focusing on providing a persistent online world set firmly in the Myst mythos that has become a trademark staple in the adventure gaming world. Interestingly enough, Myst Online's focus will be on a friendly, interactive world with a lack of competition, player killing, or gaining levels, something that places it firmly out of the realm of today's traditional MMORPGs. Instead, the developers plan on offering a series of ever-changing worlds to keep people interested: With the focus on discovery of new people and new worlds, Cyan have made the decision to keep the game fresh with constantly evolving worlds – new content updates for players to explore. As Rand Miller points out, "People want fresh content and new things every night." Just like TV networks offer their viewers, it is this philosophy which Cyan hope will give this game mass appeal. "I think to have mass-market appeal, you can't require the level of attention a lot of these online games demand," commented Miller. "Most people don't want to hang around with a thousand other people. They want to explore interesting places with a few of their friends." The preview further goes into detail regarding Cyan's plan, including daily updates, a new Age introduced every month, and Cities and Neighborhoods inhabitited by like-minded people. Also discussed are the inclusion of puzzles and mini-games for players to occupy themselves with. Those interested in futher details can find the full read at Ferrago. As for a Mac version, we have yet to hear any word of one. However, we've seen plenty of Myst titles make it to the Mac in the past, so we're hoping for good news on this one sometime in the future.
