IMG Interviews Aspyr's Ted Staloch 12:25 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
When it comes to the Mac gaming scene, few publishers are out there, getting it done like Aspyr Media. Thanks to Aspyr, the Mac is home to such heavy hitters as Lara Croft, Tony Hawk, gothic Alice, and those shifty monkeys from Escape from Monkey Island. So, how do they do it? How does Aspyr secure such A-List titles? Well, it starts with people like Ted Staloch. Recently, IMG had a chance to chat with Ted about being a Deal Maker™ at Aspyr Media. Here's a snippet: Being a "dealer" in the Mac game market is like the music and movie industry. You are as good as your last hit. Also, Aspyr is made of so many talented and unselfish people, it's hard to decipher at times who reasons for a hit.Tomb Raider II was a make or break deal that Michael and I bet the farm and Aspyr harvested a great crop. Our pitch was the same in '96 as it is six years later, we will do everything in our power to protect the brand, integrity of the game, and represent the title to the fullest of our abilities to that specific licensed platform. We are forever thankful to Eidos and Core for trusting our intentions, along with Westlake Interactive for an amazing conversion effort. And, of course Apple for an awesome turn-around after '96. Be sure to read on to learn about the inner workings of Mac game publishing.
