MWSF: Contraband at Macworld 7:02 AM | Sean Smith | Comment on this story
At Macworld Expo yesterday afternoon, Inside Mac Games spoke with "Burger" Bill Heineman of Contraband Entertainment, the development house responsible for completing the Mac version of Myth III: The Wolf Age, available now from MacSoft. Heineman told IMG that Icewind Dale and Hexen II have joined Fighter Squadron: The Screamin' Demons over Europe in the beta stage of development, with Heretic II expected to enter beta in just a few weeks. (The Product Status page at Contraband's web site estimates a February release for Hexen II and Fighter Squadron, with Icewind Dale expected this month.) All four games are being published by MacPlay. Contraband is also developing an original game called Abducted, which Heineman describes as a science fiction/horror first-person adventure. As IMG reported yesterday, Contraband recently released a version 1.1.3 beta update to Sin, another game ported for MacPlay. As our readers may remember, two different beta 1.1.2 patches were released and then pulled over the past year without going final. Heineman assured us that the 1.1.3 update will not suffer the same lingering fate: he will continue to update it until users stop reporting bugs, and then he'll release a final version. The Sin 1.1.3 beta patch and a recently released patch for Aliens vs Predator are both hosted on Contraband's Hotline server at hotline.contrabandent.com; the Sin 1.1.3 beta patch is also on Contraband's iDisk. Heineman told IMG that Contraband does plan in the future to host downloads on their web site as well. Lastly, Heineman told IMG that the source code to the Mac version of Quake II, which his old company Logicware ported for Activision, is very close to release. The principal remaining hold-up is his presence at Macworld Expo.
