IMG Heads to Macworld Expo 10:35 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
Well, it worked. Hook, line, and sinker. Those daily teasers on the Apple web site convinced me to go to Macworld Expo San Francisco. Originally I wasn't planning on going, since we had a gigantic crew of ten already going to the show. This is not the first time I've said I wasn't going and then at the last minute have decided to go. For some reason, as Macworld Expo draws near, I start getting ants in my pants. Argh, I just have to go! And then there's all the people who keep saying "You have to go!" or "Have you gone mad, why aren't you going?" So there, I'm going, ok? This year's Macworld Expo has a lot of buzz surrounding it. If you've been following all the rumor sites, then you can pretty much expect a new flat-panel iMac, the debut of the G5 processor in new Power Macs, another revamped iBook, a portable PDA-like device (rumored to be called the iWalk), and more. What's likely? A new iMac is the safest bet. Probably the biggest hint that there will be a new iMac comes straight from Apple. If you try to buy a new iMac at the Apple Store today, there's an "estimated ship" time of seven days. Various other web sites have reported that retailers are no longer stocking the current iMacs. Could new Power Macs also be on the way? The Apple store has an estimated ship time of five days for a new Power Mac. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Apple will debut a Power Mac with a G5 processor. After all, Apple says on their web site to expect to be blown away, and that would surely blow me way, way away. What other wonderful toys could Apple have up its sleeve? Only time will tell. On the gaming side, we certainly expect it to be a great show. Companies like MacSoft will be shipping new titles such as Civilization III and the long-awaited Myth III: The Wolf Age. GraphSim will be debuting Black & White for the Mac while Aspyr will be showing off Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Harry Potter, and a few other titles. MacPlay will be announcing a new title they promise will surprise everyone. Not much is known about this title except that it's code-named "Deuce." People in the IMG forum have been taking wild guesses as to what the game could be. Among the more popular are Half-Life (yes, again), Neverwinter Nights, Aliens vs Predator 2, and more. Want to take a few guesses yourself? Check out the popular forum threads below. As you've probably noticed, the IMG news section has been rather dull lately. The simple fact is that there hasn't been much exciting news lately. However, we're hoping Macworld Expo next week will be chalk full of great news. So be sure to visit IMG starting Monday as we begin our extensive coverage of Macworld Expo.
