ATI Has Surprise for Mac Expo 3:26 PM | Michael Eilers | Comment on this story
Bizwire.com, the official news wire for the 2000 Macworld Expo, has released a list of developer profiles for Macworld Expo New York, which begins tomorrow and runs through the 21st. Among the many listings is an extremely tasty morsel regarding ATI and new Macs to be announced at the expo! It seems that RADEON cards in new Power Macintosh computers is not a rumor, but is solid reality. And ATI's new portable chip will make its way into the iMac line. Here is an excerpt from the report: ATI will launch RADEON, the world's most powerful graphics processor for the MAC. ATI plans a surprise announcement on July 19. In a keynote, wait for Apple to announce three new systems with ATI graphics in them. One will be an iMac with the RAGE 4XL chip, the remaining two are PowerMacs which will ship with RAGE 128 PRO standard and RADEON.
RADEON offers the Mac market a new level of 3D performance powered by features like hardware Transform and Lighting and double data rate memory.
Apple relies on ATI's ICDT and Motion Compensation for their DVD player and integrated TMDS and ratiometric expansion to support their monitors like the 22" Apple Cinema Display.
Hmm, two new Power Macs to announce - the mind boggles. We may even see the RADEON card in action at the show. This Macworld Expo is shaping up to be a much bigger event for Mac gamers than we had ever imagined. See our related article on the PC Radeon launch for details.
