E3: Civilization III Sneak Preview, More From MacSoft

This morning in our meeting with MacSoft, Infogrames and Quicksilver representatives demonstrated Civilization III and Master of Orion III, respectively.
Announced for the Macintosh yesterday, this was the first time Civilization III was shown to print and online media (PC or Mac), and only behind closed doors. The Mac port has not yet been contracted yet because the PC version is unfinished, but Al Schilling of MacSoft assured us that it would be the "usual suspects."
As with previous Civilization games, the goal is to build a civilization from scratch and win through diplomacy, being the most technologically advanced, having the largest civilization or a superior culture. The development team's goal for Civilization 3 was to expand on the trade, culture, diplomacy, and war aspects. Of course, the graphics will be improved as well. For newbies, there will be helpful advisors to guide you through the game. Also, a tech tree chart will be built in, as opposed to the poster that was included in previous versions.
Civilization III is scheduled for release on the PC fall of this year, with the Mac version following as closely as possible. MacSoft would not commit to Mac OS X compatibility on release, but Schilling told us that it was their intent.
