Heroes of Might and Magic V Examined 7:48 AM | Cord Kruse | 2 comments
The flood of reviews for the PC version of Heroes of Might and Magic V continues with a recent examination of the title by Yahoo! Games. The latest in the long running fantasy themed turn based strategy series introduces 3D graphics and a few gameplay twists to the familiar mix. Yahoo! Games gave HoMM V a score of 3.5 out of 5. From the review: This isn't a dynamic strategy game like Civilization . As with the previous games, there are no random maps and the scenarios are often laid out like puzzles. You won't interact with the other heroes until late in a game. At the default level, the AI players are clumsy, but at least they're aggressive and moderately competent, which is considerably more than the last Heroes game offered. Unfortunately, there's no scenario editor in Heroes V , so don't count on fan-made maps just yet. As a multiplayer game, you can play skirmishes with pre-set heroes and armies, or you can set up full games. There's an option to enable "ghosts", which allow more interaction during the early game. These ghosts give each player something to do during the downtime when other players are taking their turns. You can power your ghost up and then use it to explore the map, curse other players' heroes, protect your own hero, or take control of neutral units during battles. There's even some ghost vs. ghost interplay. It's a clever idea that adds, almost literally, a whole new level to the Heroes series. The Mac version of HoMM V is currently in progress at Freeverse Software. The rest of the review can be found at the site listed below.
