Stronghold 2 Announced for PC 8:04 AM | Chris Stein | Comment on this story
Castle building will be taken to the next level in 2005, when the sequel to the best selling strategy game Stronghold is released. The sequel, entitled Stronghold 2, will include many changes to the unique gameplay introduced in the original Stronghold. The original's basic gameplay involved fending off invading hordes that are trying to take over your castle in the military mode, or tackling a variety of challenges in economic mode. Stronghold 2 hopes to build on those two premises by adding a new 3D engine, a more robust multiplayer experience, and a new mode, called castle life. Castle life orients around construction, but few details are known at this time. Here’s more info from the press release: "We decided to steer away from the typical RTS mold when we developed the original Stronghold," said Simon Bradbury, Director at Firefly Studios. "Now, with a 3D engine that can render tens of thousands of animated characters on-screen simultaneously, we can explore the intricacies of castle-life and the machinations of siege-warfare like never before in Stronghold 2. Once again we will take the Stronghold franchise into new and exciting territory." While no Mac version of the sequel has been announced yet, Inside Mac Games will provide updates if a Mac port is announced. You can read more from the press release below.
