EVE Online: Hyperion Launches Today
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

CCP Games's Hyperion update for its sci-fi MMO EVE Online is scheduled to launch today. The addition includes new PvE missions, the "biggest wormhole changes since they were first discovered," and more gear in the New Eden Store.

Here's a list of some of the changes coming in Hyperion:

Wormhole jump changes
The jump-in point will change based on ship mass, and signatures for wormhole exits will not appear until a ship jumps through.

More wormholes connecting across wormhole space
With Hyperion, there will be both more random wormhole connections appearing in wormhole space, and a whole new class of wormholes that regenerate mass over time and are only navigable in smaller ships.

Class 4 wormhole systems get a second static connection
This will make C4s exceptionally well-connected to other W-space systems and a great choice for corporations who want to enjoy a variety of travels within wormhole space.

A new kind of Level 4 missions
Take on a single, powerful enemy using fitting skills and combat tactics in new optional level 4 missions for frigate size ships that will be available from all security agents in Empire space. An upcoming dev blog will present the new missions.

Incursion Scout Sites improved to be viable for small groups
Run the revamped Scout Sites while waiting for bigger incursion fleets to form. Hyperion also brings other changes to the enemies and rewards from Incursion sites. Stay tuned for a dev blog, and in the meantime you can read more here.

Ishtar, Eagle and Muninn ship balance updates

New tooltips for the Market
A new set of tool tips will add contextual help to the market.

New character head gear, cybernetic arms and tights
Hyperion brings back classic Gallente head pieces to EVE, along with new cybernetic arms and tights. Keep an eye on the New Eden Store for these.

Character Re-sculpt and Multiple Character Training available through the New Eden Store
As a small step to ease the use and discovery of these character services, we will introduce new items that can be purchased from the New Eden Store that can be activated for character re-sculpting or multiple character training. These items can also be traded on the market.

Visual upgrades to structures like defenses, battle stations and containers
A number of structures commonly seen in missions and exploration sites get a small visual overhaul and are upgraded to use the latest rendering technologies.

Paradox Announces EU IV, CK II Expansions
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Paradox Interactive recently revealed new game expansions for Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II. The expansions, EU IV's Art of War and CK II's Charlemagne, will add new events, new mechanics, new in-game abilities, and a variety of new ways to change the course of history. Both expansions will be available for their respective games on Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs "in the near future."

Charlemagne will introduce Crusader Kings II players to the man who became the “Father of Europe,” uniting much of the continent for the first time since the since the fall of Rome and founding the Holy Roman Empire. Now starting in 769 AD – another century to play! – the expansion will include a series of story events that follows his rise to power, and will come with new game options to allow players to chart their own places in history – such as a new in-game “Chronicle” that highlights a dynasty’s conquests, marriages, and labors for the faith. Kingdoms are also more customizable in Charlemagne with the option to create your own with custom names and banners.

In Art of War, players of Europa Universalis IV will add new possibilities to explore what Clausewitz called the “continuation of politics by other means.” Changes to battle mechanics will allow wily warlords to launch sorties from sieges, sell obsolete ships and transfer occupied lands to allies. A revamped Reformation system will let you relive the Thirty Years’ War in a series of unique in-game events to see how they fare in Europe’s greatest conflict prior to the 20th century. Once the fighting has settled down, rulers will be able to try a new set of diplomatic options inspired by the Napoleonic Era, including the creation of client states to support – or resist – revolutions. And this is just the beginning.
