”You'll have to go all the way back to 1993 until you can find a game that delivers this much fun. Telltale, this is how you should have done when you resurrected the adventure genre. Beware, you're not alone anymore…” – Eurogamer Sweden 9/10
“This adventure tells a fantastic story with exceptional characters, lots of humor and allusions to well-known fantasy stereotypes and logical puzzles. The 3D landscapes are beautiful and the world made us feel right at home. We had to smile at little details very often and when we finished the game after 20 hours it was actually a melancholy moment - the hallmark of an excellent adventure!” – GameStar 85 %
“Thrilling. Funny. And visually stunning. No, we are not talking about Uncharted 3, Battlefield 3 or Batman: Arkham City, but about The Book of Unwritten Tales, one of the most beautiful graphic adventures seen in the last years.” – Meristation 8.5/10
“At nearly 4GB, The Book of Unwritten Tales isn't small in size or scope, and provides a huge amount of entertainment from start to end.” – Adventure Gamers 4.5/5
“Never in the past decade we've seen such a well-built comedy/ fantasy adventure game, filled to the brim with great narration, sense of purpose and feelings of joy and despair. An absolute must have for every "adventurer".” – 9.5/10

Jon Lander Discusses EVE Online's Success
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

CCP Games' Jon Lander recently spoke with Gamasutra about the company's sci-fi space MMO EVE Online. In the interview Lander discussed dealing with some of the mistakes the company has made, and the importance of fan input in crafting the EVE Online universe.

Lander's philosophy toward EVE these days is bottom-up in general. For example, his latest initiative in the game, the Inferno expansion, was to start a massive war -- one that will drive the movement of players and resources in the game, even those who don't engage in PvP combat.

How does this high concept boil down to the game? "I really sort of say: 'We've got a theme. We've got some business goals.' Those get broken down amongst everybody throughout the project; it's a big project."

"They come back with a whole raft of ideas which feed back up the chain, and then myself and the project management group sit down and go, 'Okay. How do we think this is best going to fit into the company? These are the ideas from the people who really know.'"

And even though some players have criticized aspects of Inferno, says Lander, "participation goes up, because it's not about giving players a feature to play through; it's about giving them tools to do their own stories."

"No one's yet been able to run through the human psyche and do all of that content, so we're very lucky in that."

Blizzard Insider 45: Mists of Pandaria's Mogu'shan Vaults
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has released the 45th episode of its Blizzard Insider feature, this time offering an interview with Mists of Pandaria Lead Encounter Designers Scott Mercer and Ion Hazzikostas. The developers discussed the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion's Mogu'shan Vaults raid instance.

Before we dive into the details, can you give us a quick overview of the lore behind the Mogu’shan Vaults? How does the raid fit into larger story of Mists of Pandaria?

Scott Mercer:
The mogu are an ancient race of evil, ogre-like sorcerers who once dominated Pandaria. At some point in the distant past, all of the warring mogu factions were united by a single tyrannical warlord known as the Thunder King. The Thunder King rose to power the “the mogu way,” namely by eliminating his rivals one by one. According to legend he was able to accomplish this with the help of a mysterious artifact that he found in the depths of a mountain. After his rise to power, he built the Mogu’shan Vaults to contain and protect this secret, and converted the surrounding structure into a sort of shrine dedicated to the mogu empire. The complex houses many of the empire’s lost artifacts and is the resting place of the spirits of old mogu kings.

Ion Hazzikostas:
At the time Mists of Pandaria begins, the Thunder King is long gone and the mogu empire has crumbled into isolated factions. As great and powerful secrets are wont to do, the Vaults have attracted a number of interested parties, including Zandalari trolls who are trying to enter the Vaults to get at the ancient source of mogu power, which is the key to their tribe’s survival. When the players arrive, they join forces with a pandaren Loremaster who knows of a way into the Vaults. The Loremasters are a new faction dedicated to learning and retelling the oral history of Pandaria, so the Vaults are naturally a place of tremendous interest to them.

Drox Operative Previewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story has posted a new preview of Soldak Entertainment's upcoming starship action RPG, Drox Operative. The game will put players in the role of an elite starship captain and will feature warring alien races, fierce space battles, a dynamic and evolving galaxy, and co-op multiplayer.

Impressively the game offers a huge selection of playable races that cover everything from typical fantasy fair to Babylon 5 references yet lack the Drox. These have apparently been extinct for thousands of years and all that remains is the secretive Drox Operative guild. Said former servants of the Drox have discovered that -having barely avoided extinction while trying to serve the galaxy- survival and power are of paramount importance, and now only work for the highest bidder as opposed to the collective happiness of the galaxy. Added to that and rather helpfully they are probably the best and most expensive trouble-shooters any space-faring race could hire.

Playing as a Drox Operative (i.e. a very selfish being) means that players will have to juggle race relations while helping one particular faction conquer the galaxy, or well one of its sectors. Killing stuff and looting aside, the main task of a Drox Operative is picking the winning side and making sure it stays winning. Getting rich also comes in handy. As does exploring planets and entering wormholes, but these are things everyone is doing in the galaxy these days.
