Winter Wolves has announced an August release for Loren Amazon Princess: The Castle of N'Mar, an expansion for the company's fantasy RPG. The new addition will introduce new zones to explore, new enemies to battle, three new playable characters, and four new romances.

Amazon scouts were sent to investigate the mysterious Castle of N'Mar, but only Breza has returned, with dire news: the vampires have taken over the castle again, and are holding the Amazons scouts captive!

The expansion will feature:

  • Three new playable characters: Mesphit the Demonblood, Sauzer the Master Of Truth and Chambara the Dark Magic Witch each one with his unique skilltree.
  • Four new romances featuring Mesphit (boy-boy, girl-boy) and Chambara (boy-girl, girl-girl)
  • New zones to explore like the Castle Of N'mar, the catacombs, dwarf mines, Tomb of Twilight, and more
  • Several new battles and enemies including cyclopes, gargoyles, necromancers, ettins, and more
  • New multiple solution quests: the line between good and evil becomes subtle and will be up to you to decide who will live and who will die
Loren Amazon Princess: The Castle of N'Mar is available for the limited time preorder price of $7.99 (regular price: $9.99).

Crossing Over: Deus Ex

Inside Mac Games has posted the latest article in Justin Ancheta's continuing series of guides. The articles offer detailed instructions for running Windows versions of game titles which either never made it to Macs, or have Mac versions incompatible with recent OS releases. This week Justin turned his attention to Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition.

Here's an excerpt:

One of DX's clear strengths was the fact that it gave players a surprisingly high degree of latitude in how situations could be resolved; a room full of guards could be cut down with a modded shotgun, blown to pieces with a well-placed grenade, or given a good stiff dose of tear gas. Not enough options? How about hacking into a nearby terminal to take control of a gun turret to tear them to shreds, after you lure them out with the sound of a random item dropped on the floor? You could open up the nearby pen holding some genetically engineered monsters to cause some havoc. You could open a poison gas valve in an engineering room to flood opposing guards with noxious fumes, or shoot an explosive barrel to set it off with a silenced pistol. Or, you could go into a ventilation duct and sneak right past them. We've seen bits and pieces of these game play elements in countless third-person and first-person RPGs and shooters over the past decade since the release of DX, and in an interesting example of emergent gameplay, these elements have led to new ways of playing and experiencing games, like the famed pacifist runs for Deus Ex and its recent prequel, Human Revolution. We've also seen countless attempts to replicate and recreate this level of freedom, and sadly, they've not quite been as successful or as engaging as we'd have liked.

Wasteland 2 Character Portrait Revealed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

In a Twitter post InXile Entertainment's Brian Fargo recently revealed a character portrait from the company's upcoming Wasteland 2 RPG. Must like its classic post-apocalyptic predecessor, the game will center around the exploits of a band of desert rangers struggling to keep order in a world recovering from disaster.

Wasteland 2 is the direct sequel to the first ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG. The original Wasteland was the inspiration for the FALLOUT series of games, and the first RPG to allow players to split parties for tactical considerations, to face players with moral choices, and to make them deal with the consequences of their actions. It was the first to provide far more than the one-key-for-one-lock style of puzzle solving. It was groundbreaking, which is why IGN named it one of the top 25 PC games of all time, Computer Gaming World named it the Adventure Game of the year in 1988, and it was short-listed for inclusion in the Smithsonian Institution’s current “Art of the Computer Game” exhibition.

Wasteland was set in a dangerous, post-apocalyptic world in the American Southwest. Over the course of adventures rangers would receive promotions, acquire new skills and equipment, then face new challenges with outcomes that changed depending on the strategy used to defeat them. The game featured a strong storyline which required painful decisions by players; and a storyline that allowed for maximum re-playability. Wasteland 2, with your participation and insights, will recapture all that and provide more. It'll finally be the game worthy to be a Wasteland sequel, as challenging and rewarding as the original, with all added capacity and dazzle of games today.
