StarCraft II: Heart Of The Swarm Details Unveiled
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 5 comments

Blizzard Entertainment has released a flood of new information about Heart of the Swarm, the upcoming expansion to StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. This time the single player campaign will center on the actions of Sarah Kerrigan, who will "embark on a quest to embrace her powers and make the galaxy fear the zerg once again."

Harder, better, faster, stronger: the Swarm never stops evolving, and in Heart of the Swarm, you decide how the zerg develop. Between missions, you'll be able to mutate your different zerg species. If you unlock enough mutations for a species, you can evolve that species into one of two different strains. For example, one zergling strain might evolve the ability to hatch more zerglings from the same egg, while the other could produce zerglings that can make short leaps forward to close into melee distance more quickly.
Blizzard's preview includes screenshots and trailers as well as information about the game's story, major characters, and key gameplay concepts. The preview information also contains spoilers for those who have yet to finish StarCraft II's campaign.

6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment recently released a new collection of character wallpapers to celebrate reaching the one million Likes target on its official Diablo III Facebook page. The game will allow players to revisit the world of Sanctuary where they must once again take up arms against the demonic forces threatening humanity.

Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen.

Diablo III will feature a custom 3D-graphics engine to render lush indoor and outdoor areas of Sanctuary with a high level of detail and vivid special effects. The gameís physics-enhanced environments will be interactive and destructible, offering traps and obstacles that create added danger for players and monsters alike. These elements, along with a new quest system and random scripted events, will be integrated into the gameís random-level generator, giving Diablo III the ultimate combination of dynamic gameplay and replayability. Cooperative and competitive play will be available online through an upgraded version of Blizzard Entertainmentís renowned online gaming service,

Quake Live News
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

id Software recently announced plans to change move its Quake Live browser based first person shooter to a new stand alone app, citing a reduction in support for browser plug-ins in recent years. One of the results of the change will be a loss of Mac OS X and Linux support, requiring the use of emulation or virtualization software to keep using Quake Live on those platforms.

Over the past few years, browser support for plugins such as QUAKE LIVE have dropped off significantly, causing problems for plugins to operate in a consistent and working manner. With the recent announcement of Google Chrome's roadmap to turning off plugin support and the upcoming changes in Firefox, it seems that now is the time to make the transition.

Once we go live with this change, you will log in to the site as you normally would. From there you will be presented with a prompt to download the new QUAKE LIVE Launcher. The launcher will automatically keep your game up to date before loading. Once inside, youíll will be greeted with the website, embedded directly into the game itself. From here, the interface will look and operate similarly to how it does today, but the game will already be running and ready to connect to a match.

This change will allow us to have greater control over the game environment, and more tightly integrate the game with the online components going forward. Some of these benefits will be apparent from day one: getting in and out of games is a smoother experience, and you will be able to view server pings from the match browser before joining the game to better judge connection quality.

When will this update be released?
While we don't have a specific date yet, we expect to release before the end of the year. More specific dates will be given as we get closer to release.

Will there be Mac/Linux support?
We will be unable to support Mac and Linux clients with this transition. While we have reports from our testers that the game works through emulation or virtualization software, we are unable to support native Mac and Linux versions. If youíre using Mac and Linux and have a paid subscription, you will only be able to access the game using emulation or virtualization software.
