City Of Heroes: Account Reactivation & Double XP Weekend

In celebration of the recent release of the Issue 16: Power Spectrum update for City of Heroes, NCSoft has announced a Double XP weekend. Starting on October 8 and continuing through October 11 both villain and hero characters will receive double the usual experience points for their accomplishments. The company will also allow gamers with inactive accounts to rejoin the game for the duration of the weekend event.

We're celebrating the recent launch of Issue 16: Power Spectrum in style by offering all our players a Double XP weekend! But that's not all, all inactive accounts in good standing will also be given access to City of Heroes and City of Villains® during the Double XP weekend!

Here are the dates and times:

Starts: Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 8:59 a.m. Pacific Time (11:59 a.m. Eastern Time)
Ends: Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time (2:59 a.m. Eastern Time)

All participating Hero and Villain characters will receive double the XP, Influence, and Infamy for their accomplishments in game. Just log in to start playing and take advantage of this opportunity to level up your favorite Heroes and Villains twice as quickly as normal!

If you or any of your friends haven't played in a while, visit City of Heroes for all the latest game news and to learn more about Issue 16: Power Spectrum. Download the PC game client or the Mac game client, or visit our official message forums for a wealth of information.

Please note: if your account expires after the reactivation weekend has started, it will not get automatically reactivated. To participate in the Double XP Weekend, you will need to reactivate your account via the usual method. Please check our Knowledge Base for more information on how to reactivate your game account.

Diablo II Patch 1.13 Delayed Again

Originally announced earlier this year the new 1.13 patch for Blizzard Entertainment's action RPG Diablo II has once again been delayed. This time the release has been held up by worries about the impact of increased player stash sizes on the servers. Blizzard's Bashiok, in a recent forum posting, said the issue is being examined and more information will hopefully be made available next week.

The Diablo II 1.13 patch is on temporary hold while we investigate potential impact on the service. As we moved closer to launching the patch concerns grew that an increase in the player stash size (a feature in the patch) could compromise the Diablo II service. The hardware and configuration could potentially not handle the increased stash size gracefully under heavy load. Currently we’re investigating potential impact as it is one of the larger content features in the patch and we’re hoping it can remain a part of the release. If it does have to be removed it will require additional time to remove it, generate new patches, and test, which will add time before we can go live on the PTR.

We’re hoping to have our diagnostics and a final decision on how we’ll be moving forward decided by early next week and we’ll have an update for you at that time.

WoW: Icecrown Citadel Dungeon Revealed

Blizzard Entertainment has updated its official World of Warcraft website with new information about Icecrown Citadel. The new five person dungeon is scheduled for release in the upcoming 3.3 content patch for the popular MMO, and gives players the chance to aid Jaina Proudmoore and Sylvanas Windrunner in a mission to weaken the Lich King's forces.

Icecrown Citadel will feature a massive five-player dungeon sprawling across three wings of the citadel's foundation. While the Lich King's attention is focused on the Argent Crusade and the Knights of the Ebon Blade ripping through the front gates, players will be tested as they assist Jaina Proudmoore (Alliance) and Sylvanas Windrunner (Horde) in infiltrating the citadel through an alternate entrance.

An epic quest line will present adventurers with the task of weakening Icecrown Citadel's forces, requiring that players defeat the challenges in each dungeon wing before venturing into the next one. Normal and Heroic versions of the dungeon will be accessible to players, although each wing will be considered a separate instance; therefore, on Heroic difficulty, each wing will have its own separate lockout timer. All-new rewards -- including item level 219 (normal) and level 232 (Heroic) loot -- will be offered to those who destroy some of the Lich King's most formidable allies.

Blizzard Updates Website, Adds YouTube Hub

Blizzard Entertainment recently unveiled its newly redesigned website and a YouTube hub for displaying the company's cinematic creations. The website features revamped game sections for its current and upcoming titles, company information, and community content. Blizzard's YouTube channel includes cinematics from its games as well as teaser trailers from upcoming titles like Diablo III and StarCraft II.

Welcome to the newly redesigned! Featuring a brand-new design, this website is the focal point for all official Blizzard Entertainment news, press releases, and much, much more.

StarCraft II: Q&A Round 53

The 53rd Q&A focusing on answers to fan questions about StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, Blizzard Entertainment's long awaited sequel to the original StarCraft, is now available. SC II will introduce new multiplayer action and a detailed single player campaign.

5. The terrain types in StarCraft II we have seen so far had names like “Bel’Shir (Jungle)”. Does this mean that “Bel’Shir” is just an alias for jungle and every terrain is just named after a typical planet using it or are there – to stick with this example – other jungle maps with a different terrain set, something like “Aiur (Jungle)”?
We named our terrain sets based on the planets. There are a lot more terrain sets than in the original StarCraft and you will have huge flexibility in modifying the terrain sets (including adjusting textures, doodads, lighting) allowing you to create your own variations of the default maps. There may be other jungle-themed default maps named after other planets.

6. Will there be any chance to have more options on pausing the game? In StarCraft: Brood War every player can pause the game three times, but every other player can unpause it. How about a (user editable) time limit before other players can unpause the game?
We recommend that players communicate with each other in the game to agree on when to pause and unpause during the game. We feel that pausing the game interrupts the game flow and it would be inconvenient for players to be forced to wait for a certain amount of time before being able to unpause. The pausing feature is mainly meant to allow for pausing of the game when all players are in agreement and for which duration.
