Independent game studio Codeminion has announced the launch Far Eastern Frenzy, the third expansion to the casual puzzler Ancient Quest of Saqqarah. The add-on expands the original game with 504 new levels, effectively doubling the original content. It also includes new music, new graphics, and new ranks for players to collect.

The expansion also includes additional gameplay music, extra graphics and new ranks for the players to collect. The developers also provided a way to get the new expansion for free through a promotion on their GameClubCafe casual portal. 50 SaqPacks are to be given away for free to the first customers who purchase any game from the portal's collection. The promotion starts on May 15, 2009 and runs until all the 50 SaqPacks are given away.

Ancient Quest of Saqqarah is a vast and highly successful casual puzzle game, described by GameZebo as "a benchmark against which to score all future competition". With over 500 levels spread across 7 different puzzle mechanics, lush graphics, rich soundtrack and main character voiced by Michael McMconnohie (Diablo 2, World of Warcraft), Saqqarah is one of the largest and most polished puzzle games of 2008.
Far Eastern Frenzy is available for both OS X and Windows for the price of $9.99 (USD). A full version of the original Ancient Quest of Saqqarah is required to run the expansion.

Koonsolo has announced an upcoming promotional price discount for Mystic Mine, the developer's family friendly action title. On June 1, newsletter subscribers will receive a promotional discount code which will last for one week.

In Mystic Mine players guide a gold car through a mine to complete a variety of objectives, switching rails with a single button. Although the car only travels down, an optic illusion in the levels allows players to reach every point. The game features over 200 levels, a variety of missions, single button gameplay, and up to six players playing on one keyboard.

Play over 200 levels with different missions and powerups. The missions include picking up coins, bring diamonds to tunnels, racing to flags, etc. By colliding into another car, you can steel diamonds and other valuables, or pass the dynamite before it explodes. Various pickups modify your behaviour: a balloon makes you go up but not down, a ghost allows you to move through everything, ... . But whatever you do, avoid the dynamite!!!

• Family friendly gameplay for all ages.
• Single-button gameplay.
• Accessible to people and children with limited mobility.

New Rage Preview & Screenshots
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Hooked Gamers recently published a new preview of id Software's Rage, an upcoming action title set in a post-apocalyptic future. In the game players will be dropped into a ravaged world in which the survivors of a massive asteroid impact struggle against mutants and gangs. Rage will feature both first person shooting elements and a variety of vehicular based mayhem.

A once hospitable world is now inhabited by ugly mutants looking for an easy victim and fierce rival human gangs bent on rebuilding the world as they see fit. So you as the main character in this cataclysmic mess certainly will have your work cut out for you as you battle your way to a positive outcome.

The main mode of transportation in this world is via a vehicle that can only be described as your life’s blood. If you leave the safety and comfort of your vehicle during an inopportune time then you can easily become mutant toast. The vehicles mount various weapons systems such as Gattling and machine guns. When you come across an enemy that needs killing you can blast away to your heart's content.

The vehicles also serve to provide the player with a means of acquiring new weapons and a rather impressive inventory of other sci-fi based game items. All of this is done by winning races. Being that this is a vehicle-dominated world then your personal garage can contain numerous vehicles and there are various vehicles for each different job.
Check out the rest of the preview and a collection of screenshots at the link below.

Basilisk Seeks Feedback On Eschalon Book 2 Registration
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 2 comments

Basilisk Games has announced plans to add registration codes to Eschalon Book II, the second in the "old school" fantasy RPG series. A new post on the official forums solicits feedback from owners of the previous game, which did not require registration codes. Book II will continue the storyline and feature a variety of new skills, new creatures, and a larger world to explore.

With Book II we are thinking about handling distribution they way others (such as the fine folks @ Spiderweb Software, for example) do it by having one version of the game that has a limited play area, and you would use a key code to unlock the "full version".

Using a key is not about copy protection or preventing piracy. Remember, Book I is not protected at all- we will not use an invasive DRM on our games. The registration system simply gives customers a "receipt" that grants them permission to download and access the full game. You can still be a wanker and share your serial number with other people, just like you can take the files for Book I and upload them to a file sharing site. Nothing will stop you from pirating our games except our death from lack of sales.

This whole "registration key idea" is about giving customers easier access to what they purchase from us. Right now, if you want version 1.05, you have to ask us to send you a new download link. Also patches are very dangerous (if not impossible, on Linux) to release because it can break existing games. So, using a key to unlock the full version (which you can always download the latest from us) seems to be the best solution, so far.
