Playrix Entertainment has announced the release of The Rise of Atlantis for Mac OS X. The match 3 game takes players on a quest around the ancient lands of the Mediterranean to collect the seven powers of Poseidon and raise the city of Atlantis. The game features 77 levels and 7 artifacts to discover.

Adventure With The Undead In A Vampyre Story

Adventure Classic Gaming has published a new review of A Vampyre Story. Developed by Autumn Moon Entertainment and on its way to the Mac courtesy of Virtual Programming, the point and click adventure tells the tale of opera singer Mona De Lafitte who struggles with her new life after being turned into a vampire. ACG Gave the game a score of 4 out of 5.

Among the highlights for A Vampyre Story are the beautifully hand drawn background artworks. While the game’s graphics carries an overall cartoony style, the colors and details are so convincing (especially in the outdoor sceneries) that they feel as impressions of real places. There is also a very neat parallax optical effect achieved through the use of several background planes positioned at differing depths that can be seen at different distances. Each of these planes can scroll sideways at different pace to reflect the player’s viewing angle at the entire scene. The only complaint of the graphics is that the game is limited to 1024x768 in resolution and has no widescreen support. To read the full review head over to the link below.
Adventure Classic Gaming: A Vampyre Story Review
Game characters and objects are all rendered as 3D models that readily contrast with the 2D painted backgrounds. The use of 3D models allows for some flexibility in setting up close-up shots and cinematic angles for the animations. Indeed, the game has a great amount of scripted animations—not only of the foreground but also many parts of the background (for example, smoke coming out of chimneys or falling snow). While some character motions seem a bit awkward, the majority looks very good, including detailed gesticulations and facial expressions. The cut scenes, while showing signs of compression artifacts, make for even more animated movie like cinematics.
Voiceovers in A Vampyre Story are also of a high quality. Not only Mona and Froderick have been given a lot of personality by their respective voice talents, the whole ensemble casts have done a great job bringing their characters to life. However, the dialogue sometimes suffers from an abundance of ethnic accents and an overly modern vocabulary that is out of keeping with either the story’s time period or the game’s highly stylized visual. On the other hand, the musical score is fitting, even when it is sweet and sentimental in tone. It even includes a few nice vocal parts.

Penny Arcade Adventures Episode Two Reviewed

Adventure Classic Gaming recently posted a new review of Penny Arcade Adventures: On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode 2. In the latest chapter in the series players rejoin Gabe and Tycho in a quest that moves ever closer to solving the mystery in the heart of New Arcadia. ACG gave Episode 2 a score of 4 out of 5.

A great deal about this game feels significantly scaled up from the first episode, from the number of characters you will meet and converse with, to the variety in enemies and locations, and the quality of its puzzles. As in most adventure games, the main characters make use of an inventory to store items, some of which are consumable items to aid in battle and some of which are relevant to the plot and puzzle solving. However, all plot relevant items are used automatically if the situation is appropriate, thus limiting the ingenuity required on the part of the player. While the overall structure of the puzzles is still based on quests, with the main challenge being exploring every environment exhaustively and acting as necessary to accomplish your specific goal, there are a few interesting examples of puzzles that can fool you with their initial simplicity but reveal more depth as you dive into them.Visit the site below to read more.
Adventure Classic Gaming: PAA Episode 2 Review
The combat system is also significantly improved from the first episode. Among my major gripes from the last game is how the difficulty curve starts out steep upon first entering an area and meeting a new type of enemy, then flattens out as you move towards completing an area, only to spike up again upon reaching a new area to the point of demanding more experience or upgrades from the player. Now, the game allows players to change the difficulty level at will if they prefer to worry less about the combat and more about the story, and the enemies are better spaced out for a gradual slope of challenge. The particulars of the combat system are worth noting, as you move through scrolling areas interacting with characters and items, you will occasionally see enemy characters who will engage you in a combat screen when you draw close.
