IMG Reviews Airline Tycoon Deluxe
5:34 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
IMG has posted a review of Airline Tycoon Deluxe. Here's a clip from the review:
The game under scrutiny here is Airline Tycoon Deluxe, a slightly expanded version of Airline Tycoon, released clearly in the declining phase of the tycoon genre (1999). Despite never reaching any top-ten position on game sales charts throughout the world, it sold surprisingly well. It did so well that the developers, a tiny German company named Spellbound, promptly released two expansion packs (First Class: Jan. 2001, Evolution: Sept. 2002), each one marginally expanding the original game with things such as new airplanes and additional scripted missions. Airline Tycoon Deluxe is a compilation of all the expansion packs in addition to the original game, brought together in one handy package. To check out the entire review, follow the link below.

Cars: The Video Game Reviewed
7:19 AM | Anthony Wang | 21 comments
Gamezone has posted a review of Cars: The Video Game. Th e review praised the developers concept for the game by creating an explorable story mode with other activities, instead of solely relying on racing. Overall, the game received a 7.9 of 10 score.
Developed by THQ and based on the animated Pixar film, Cars: The Video Game takes you for a ride as Lightning McQueen on a quest to capture the Piston Cup championship.
Here's an excerpt from the review:
Now, the "GTA light" comment I made in the headline revolves around the way that the game is set up in story mode. The developers could have gone with a simple, drive around in multiple races aspect but instead gave the player a pretty open area to explore rather than just going from one thing to the other. If you're not in the mood to go and do the next mission, you can always go back and replay past missions, drive around and just talk to other inhabitants (some new ones not in the movie and some familiar faces) or collect various tokens for points which help you unlock new cars, upgrade current cars, or unlock a variety of extras including concept art or deleted scenes that they decided to leave out.A demo of Cars: The Video Game can be downloaded from MacGameFiles.

Custer Is The Boss Of A New Desktop
7:19 AM | Brad Custer | 1 comment
IMG's resident graphics guru, Brad Custer, has released another high quality desktop available now at the Custer's Desktops. This week's selection is inspired by Aspyr Media's The Sims 2: Open For Business, the upcoming expansion pack for the gaming hit The Sims 2, titled simply "Employment". Here's a short description from the man himself:
With the recent announcement that The Sims 2: Open For Business from Aspyr Media is coming to the Mac, the fans of the Sims franchise have taken up residence in my inbox. Players of this game are definitely a dedicated group, which includes myself since the original game, so I'm more than willing to venture into this realm once again. I was able to make this week's wallpaper with the help of Aspyr Media and my trusty cable modem. To download the desktop, simply click on the link provided below.

Mac Beta of Warsow Released
7:19 AM | Anthony Wang | 15 comments
Warsow, a fast paced action shooter with an emphasis on movement and tricks, has been released for the Mac. According to the official Warsow forums, dedicated individuals have ported the latest version of the game to the Mac for both PowerPC and Intel Macs.
Warsow is a standalone game based on Qfusion, a modification of the Quake 2 game engine. The game features cartoonish cell shaded characters with a power-up system to provide fast-paced gameplay.
Notes:In addition, here are the steps to install the game if you are having trouble:
- This files contains only the binary and not the game data. You need to download the Linux or Windows full package and copy the basewsw files.
- r_custommode, r_customwidth and r_customheight cvars allow custom resolutions. (don't forget a vid_restart after setting the cvars)
- Menu-Music doesn't work, yet. If you really want the music to work you can create a symbolic link to your libvorbisfile.dylib in the warsow directory. The library is also contained in the .app bundle, but isn't loaded from there, yet.
- No dedicated server .app available, yet. It's somewhat complex to provide a .app bundle for an console application. (I'll have a look at sdl-console in the coming days)
- The wswBrowser doesn't work as the warsow path is hardcoded and can't start .app bundles. By linking Warsow.app/Contents/MacOS/warsow to the Warsow root directory it should work even it doesn't use the pretty app-icon, then.
Thanks to gh3 for testing the app and compiling the i386 part of the universal binaries.
I plan to upload a full release (including the game data) tomorrow.
- Download the full release for Linux or WindowsAccording to the latest forum posts, there are still a few problems with the latest release, but the Mac developers who ported the game are on it and are looking for the fixes. Please click on the links below for more information.
- Extract the downloaded full release
- Download the Macintosh DMG
- Open the Macintosh DMG
- Copy the Warsow.app into the warsow directory
- Copy the contents the basewsw included in the DMG into the warsow/basewsw directory

WoW: New Realm Transfer Service Q&A
7:19 AM | Cord Kruse | 3 comments
In an interview with Gamespot, Blizzard Entertainment's Shane Debiri reveals details of the company's soon-to-be-released character transfer service for World of Warcraft. For a $25 fee players will be allowed to move a favorite character to a less crowded server.
GS: Speaking of the fee, Blizzard is charging $25 per character transfer. Is this to prevent people from abusing the feature? Will you be able to transfer a character as much as you want, so long as you're willing to pay $25 each time? And what sorts of transfer restrictions are there in general? To read the rest of the Q&A, which also touches on the Cross-Realm Battlgrounds to be offered in patch 1.12, click on the link below.
Gamespot: WoW Character Transfer Q&A
SD: A character can only be transferred to a new realm once every six months, and once completed, a character transfer cannot be reversed. Also, there will be both character and realm restrictions. For example, you will need to be at least level 10 to transfer realms, and you’ll only be able to carry over a certain amount of gold. The cap is set at 300 gold for characters between levels 10 and 30, 1,000 gold for characters between levels 31 and 50, and characters at level 51 and above can bring a maximum of 5,000 gold.
