TeamSpeex for OS X Coming Soon
8:13 AM | Eddie Park | 30 comments
Mac users who have been waiting for a VoIP chat client may want to check out a program called TeamSpeex. Currently in beta testing, TeamSpeex allows OS X users to chat online via voice, and is in fact a TeamSpeak client for Mac gamers.
So I was tired of waiting and seeing Mac users being left in the dark and not supported by not having a client, up until now ofcourse because (you probably already guessed it) TeamSpeex is a TeamSpeak client for Mac OS X!TeamSpeex uses the Speex codec and is fully compatible with existing TeamSpeak servers, meaning that Mac users should be able to chat alongside PC and Linux users. The TeamSpeex site notes that an open beta will soon be available for those interested in trying it out.

IMG Reviews Midnight Mansion
8:31 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
IMG has posted a review of Midnight Mansion, the side-scrolling game by ActionSoft. Here's a clip from the review:
Midnight Mansion's hero is an intrepid adventurer named Jack Malone who has realized that the true path to getting stinking rich is not through wealthy relatives or blind luck on the stock market: it's by exploring trap- and ghost-ridden old mansions. However, Jack isn't exactly your typical video game adventurer. He's a little portly, gets winded sometimes from all the running about, and instead of carrying any firepower he has his trusty yo-yo, which he whips out during times of boredom.Be sure to check out the entire review by following the link below.

Postal 2: Apocalypse Weekend Released for Mac
8:15 AM | Eddie Park | 10 comments
The good, wholesome folks at Running With Scissors have recently bestowed their latest gift on the Mac and Linux communities in the form of Postal 2: Apocalypse Weekend. A single-player add-on for the original Postal 2, Apocalypse Weekend adds a wealth of new content for the discerning gamer, including new maps, weapons, enemies, and even the semblance of a plot.
Among the new weapons are boomerang machetes, scythes, and the sledgehammer, all of which can be used on new enemies that include MadCow-infected Tourettes Zombies, Attack Cats, and Demon Midgets.
Asked whether he hesitated to launch on these benign platforms because of the sudden controversy swirling around video and computer games, Running With Scissors ringleader Vince Desi didn't blink. "Our Mac and Linux fans were hot as a cup of McDonald's coffee for the final installment in the POSTAL2 series. For us and our fans, the recipe has always remained the same: a twist of humor, several buckets of the old ultra-violence and a base of solid game play, served with an inevitable side order of controversy."Apocalypse Weekend is currently available for order on a hybrid disc that includes Mac, Linux, and PC versions. The full version of Postal 2 or Postal 2: Share the Pain is needed in order to play.

Another Stubbs Preview
8:14 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
As Stubbs The Zombie shuffles even closer to release the previews continue to crawl into view. One of the latest is from Gamedaily.com which takes a look at the title's ability to avoid stale gameplay. The option to turn enemies into shambling allies is just one of the unique features which keeps the game fresh.
From the preview:
To their credit, the developers have tried to keep things varied and therefore interesting. Everyone you bite/scratch (and since when does a zombie scratch turn you into the undead?) will transform the unfortunate victim into a zombie and he or she will fight alongside you against the small armies of cops that want nothing more than to place a toe tag on Stubb's feet and shove him into a wood chipper. This means you can have a small army of like, ten or more rotting corpses fighting alongside you, and you can push them in a direction or whistle to get their attention. Trust me, they come in handier than, well...an extra hand. Not only will they do the dirty work for you, but they act as major distractions. Want to get the cops off your back? Divert their attention by sending a zombie horde into their stupid faces!Aspyr and Wideload plan to release Stubbs for the Mac sometime in November. For the full preview follow the link below.

Doukutsu Monogatari Freeware Available
8:14 AM | Eddie Park | 4 comments
A reader recently pointed us to an interesting bit of freeware gaming that folks may want to investigate. Titled Doukutsu Monogatari, which translates into Cave Story, this game is the creation of a Japanese developer named StudioPixel that took over 5 years to create what is described as an action/platformer in the vein of titles such as Castlevania and Metroid.
Dokutsu Monogatari is heavily lauded for its polished feel, engaging storyline, and compelling artwork. It was so well-received that folks took the trouble to translate it into English.
Cave Story is really one of those games that can be considered a masterpiece of game design. There are so many wonderful and classic gaming elements, that I cannot even begin to describe just one quality well enough to say "It is for this one reason alone that Cave Story is a great game." There is just so much effort, originality and ingenuity behind this game and it really shows more and more as you play through it.The folks behind the English translation of this title have both Mac and PC versions available for download, with separate English patches available for folks that need the additional help. In addition, extensive FAQs, character guides, and miscellaneous info on Doukutsu Monogatari can be found at their site as well.
