World of WarCraft Card Game Coming Soon
8:09 AM | Anthony Wang | 11 comments

Blizzard has teamed up with Upper Deck to create a World of WarCraft trading card game. The goal of the trading card game will be to base it as much as possible on the original itself. Upper Deck will work hand in hand with the Blizzard developers to create multiple levels of play and simulate the World of WarCraft. One of the possible features include having special foil cards in packs that once scratched unveils special codes that can be used on your character. Also, players can initiate a version of Raids when one player builds a raid deck and the remaining players battle against him or her.

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve teamed up with Upper Deck Entertainment to bring World of Warcraft to trading card game players nationwide. Starting next Spring, players will be able to build their decks and attend events that let them challenge Onyxia, or raid Molten Core in an attempt to defeat Ragnaros with the hopes of getting powerful Epic cards.
If all goes well, look for the World of Warcraft trading card game in the earlier part of 2006. To learn more information, please follow the links below.

Unity Update Offers Windows Game Creation
8:09 AM | Cord Kruse | 2 comments

Yesterday Over The Edge Entertainment released a major update to Unity, its 3D game development platform. Version 1.1 now allows users to publish games for Windows as well as Mac OS X, all with a single button click. Targeted at medium to small game developers, Unity features a graphical user interface, extensible graphics, the Ageia physX Engine, skinned character animation, ragdolls, and optimized scripting.

Here is the complete list of updates in 1.1:

* Windows standalone deployment of games made with Unity is now fully supported
* Several next-generation render-to-texture effects, and virtual displacement mapping
* A 30 page scripting tutorial making it a lot easier to get started with scripting
* Greatly expanded documentation with many new examples of how to achieve various effects
* Possibility to extend the functionality of Unity-made games with a new C/C++ plug-in SDK to interface with any hardware or software Unity doesn’t support out of the box
* Big game workflow has been greatly improved allowing the entire flow of arbitrarily sized games to be designed, tested, and tuned inside Unity.
* Asynchronous internet access supported in an easy-to-use API
* And of course the usual host of minor improvement and bug-fixes are included
Best known for its use in the creation of Ambrosia's Gooball, Unity is available in two versions. For developers on a budget the "Indie" version is currently selling for $249. The "Pro" version costs a hefty $999, but is the only version to offer the new Publish to PC feature. For more information check out OTEE's site at the link below.

Fable: The Lost Chapters Interview
8:09 AM | Blake Buck | Comment on this story

Gamespot recently posted a new interview with Dene Carter, the creative director of Lionhead Studios about their latest game, Fable: The Lost Chapters (FTLC). FTLC is a real-time action-oriented roleplaying game with an emphasis on sandbox exploration. In this interview, Carters comments on new locations, quests, enemies, and characters in FTLC. From the Gamespot interview:

GameSpot: So what can you tell us about the nine new areas in The Lost Chapters? Are they exotically different from the existing levels, or variations on the existing theme? And what sort of places will you explore?

Dene Carter: Without giving too much away, we wanted to increase the number of towns, scary places, genuinely bizarre locations, and, frankly, good old-fashioned wilderness terrain. Several of the new locations have a snowy theme, being set in the Northern Wastes. Hook Coast introduced the player to a vaguely snowy region, but we've taken that a lot further in the new areas.

FTLC is currently slated for a September 20th, PC release. Feral Interactive has already licensed the Mac version of the game, and should be available soon after the PC release. IMG will have more information on FTLC as it develops.
