Lugaru 2 Announced, Help Wanted

Wolfire Software has announced the development of a sequel for Lugaru: The Rabbit's Foot, a shareware third-person fighting game. Dubbed Lugaru 2 for now, planned features include a new graphics engine, character details, enhanced Mod support, and water effects. In addition, David Rosen of Wolfire Software is seeking a Sound Designer and Modeller to help in the development of Lugaru 2.
Here is a look at the storyline:
Lugaru 2 takes place where Lugaru left off; Turner the warrior rabbit has overthrown the corrupt monarchy, and beaten the wolves into submission. However, after killing everyone responsible for the death of his family, he no longer even has his anger to guide him, and wanders the island of Lugaru in search of a cause to restore meaning to his shattered life.Expect to hear more about Lugaru 2 soon. Missions in both games are well laid out and have a wide range of objectives, from simple elimination of enemies to rescuing imprisoned personnel to demolition. At the beginning of each mission, you are given a detailed briefing covering all primary objectives. Each mission has secondary objectives that can make completing the primary objectives much easier, such as taking out gun placements or neutralizing enemy personnel. While early missions can often be completed fairly easily with only a couple of tries, later missions become quite complex and difficult to complete, often requiring precise timing between your squad members, and numerous retries to get right. With some games this would be a strike against it, and with some people it still might be. But I like the idea that it will often take more than an itchy trigger finger to get your men through a mission.To check out the entire review, follow the link below.

Shadowbane's Lead Designer Interviewed

MMORPG.COM has posted the results of a short interview with Sara "Lietgardis" Jensen, Lead Designer and Data Manager for the PvP-based MMORPG Shadowbane. The interview is fairly general, covering how Jensen acquired her current position, her views on women working in gaming, and the more challenging portions of her duties.
One aspect aspiring game industry workers may want to note is the ladder Jensen had to climb to get where she is, starting with working data entry jobs while doing a lot of volunteer writing for various game-related websites.
After a short stint as a web developer, I moved to Austin and saw a Ubisoft ad on Gamasutra.com for a data entry monkey at an Austin MMO studio. Hey, I have data entry experience AND I love MMOs! I got the job four months before Shadowbane shipped, and I moved up to a real design position shortly after launch. It's all been upwards from there.She also notes she believes that the challenges women used to face in the industry are fading fast, and encourages them to pursue game development as a career.
As far as the future of Shadowbane goes, Jensen states that they are committed to delivering quality PvP play, with improved social systems and PvP ranking systems currently being in the works.

Grubby Games Releases Fizzwizzle

New developer Grubby Games has released its first title, Professor Fizzwizzle. The puzzle-based game has players attempting to help the Professor find his way across the playfield to reach the exit on the other side of a variety of brain teasing obstacles.
The game is intended for the whole family and offers a variety of difficulties spanning over 200 levels of gameplay. In addition to kids, normal and advanced modes the game includes a "Kids Alphabet" mode designed to "teach letter and words through pictures in the game". Grubby Games promises that the more difficult modes will prove a challenge to adults as well as children.
In Professor Fizzwizzle you must use cunning to solve puzzles and reach the exit teleportation pad. Blocking your path will be many obstacles, which you'll have to use a variety of items to overcome. For example rolling a barrel, pushing a crate, using magnets, pressing buttons, and opening gates are some of the many activities you'll be performing. It will take all the problem solving skills you can muster to predict and plan your moves. However, should you not be able to overcome a level you can refer to a built-in problem solver that will show you the solution that you seek. In Professor Fizzwizzle you will always be challenged and never be stuck.Professor Fizzwizzle includes a level editor for the more creative gamers out there. Grubby Games encourages players to share their creations with friends or post them online for others to download.

Littlewing Updates Pinball Games To OS X

LittleWing, developer of such titles as Jinni Zeala and Monster Fair, has updated another of its pinball games, Angel Egg, to OS X. Now users of 10.1 and up can enjoy this game.
This update comes on the heels of the release of an OS X version of Golden Logres, the sequel to Crystal Caliburn. The Arthurian themed "Role Playing Pinball" game is also now available to users of OS 10.1 and higher.

Hello, alot of you have heard of the 3v3 Blue and Grey tournament. Well Registration ends on July 20th and the tourny will start this saturday(July 23rd) at 1 PM central(cst) were doing this to avoid conflict with MWC. I have someone working on the brackets right now I'm almost positive this will be a double elimination tourny but not 100% sure. ControllerMate v3.0 Now Available

Orderbytes LLC has updated their ControllerMate utility program. ControllerMate allows you to use joysticks, gamepads, trackballs, and other gaming devices to perform keyboard and mouse actions. It uses a graphic interface and drag-and-drop function to program complex keyboard sequences with ease.
ControllerMate v3 includes a number of additions and improvements. The additions include:The download weighs in at 3.3mb and since the utility is shareware, it costs$10. To learn more about ControllerMate or to give it a try, follow the links below.
Added mouse control building blocks. ControllerMate actions may now position the cursor on the screen and create simulated mouse clicks and scroll wheel events.
Added basic combinational logic building blocks. Elaborate button combinations are now possible by using blocks which represent AND, NOT, OR, and XOR logic functions.
Added a Value Selector building block. A Value Selector is similar in function to a Range block, but it is a more natural match for hatswitch building blocks.
Added a Safety building block. Since it is now possible to use ControllerMate to create elaborate repeating mouse and keyboard actions, it is becoming easier to create an inadertent situation where the actual mouse and keyboard may be overwhelmed by ControllerMate's programming. The Safety block allows the user to setup a particular controller button (or button combination) which will stop all ControllerMate output.
Added a Finder Item building block. ControllerMate can now be used to instruct the Finder to open a particular item. Although any item can be specified, the most useful items are probably Automator workflows and AppleScript scripts.
Improvements in version 3 include:
Added power and screen brightness keys to the Keystrokes Palette window.
Added an indicator on axis, button, and hatswitch building blocks which shows the current state of that block's modifiers.
Normally, the ControllerMate Helper application runs in the background to handle controller events when the ControllerMate application is not running. A preference item has been added to disable this behavior and require the ControllerMate application to be running in order to handle controller events.
When a group is selected in the main editor window, previews of the pages that are contained in that group are shown in the workspace area.
Building blocks on disabled pages will now update their values when controller buttons are presesd, but will still not produce any sort of output. This is useful for debugging the logic of complex actions, without having to deal with the output that ControllerMate would normally produce.

Chronic Logic recently announced Golf?, a unique real-time, first-person, multiplayer golf game. Game Makers On Transition To Intel Chips

In a Mac Observer article recently, several Mac game makers spoke about the impact of a switch to Intel processors on Mac gaming. While the potential for a Macintosh machine capable of booting into both Windows and OS X might impact the interest of hardcore Mac gamers in Mac native applications, Aspyr's Glenda Adams indicated that more casual gamers would be less likely to want the hassle of configuring a dual boot system.
"the existing WINE and dual boot solutions for Linux don't seem nearly as clean and wonderful as some people portray it. A lot of people talk about running games okay in WINE, but only after tweaking a lot of drivers, downloading updates, etc. It's definitely not the easy drop-in experience that 90% of end users want. I think most people just want to buy a box at the Apple store, take it home, install it and play. They don't want to restart their Macs, subscribe to a monthly fee for an emulator or have to keep track of emulator updates. While the game makers seemed cautiously optimistic, Aaron Fothergill of Strange Flavour had a bleaker view of an easy to use dual booting macintosh.
"So there will continue to be a market for OS X native games," she continued. "It just may skew more towards casual gamers and not such much to hardcore gamers who might put up with extra work to get a Windows game running."
the "Mac games market is pretty much a goner" if Windows turns out to be easy to install and run on the new Macs, but "it'll take a while for the Intelitoshes to gain a sizeable chunk of the Mac gaming market anyway, so whatever happens, we've probably got a couple years to adjust."Peter Tamte of Destineer said the change will be a positive thing for mac gamers, noting that the company already has Intel-based machines and is finding the process of porting PowerPC apps to the new systems "surprisingly painless."
"Anything that grows the Mac market is great for Destineer," he added. "Anything that lets Mac users run more games is great for Mac users."

Unity Updated To 1.04

Over The Edge Entertainment has released an update to its game development toolkit, Unity. The software has been updated to version 1.04.
Version 1.0.4 is a hot-fix update that makes installation of Widgets created with Unity more stable. It contains no other changes, so unless you are distributing Widgets it's necessary to upgrade. If you already shipped Widgets built with Unity 1.0.3, please rebuild them with 1.0.4.Unity is perhaps best known for its use in the creation of Ambrosia's GooBall. It is an OS X exclusive utility intended to provide an easy to use environment for the creation of Mac games and OS X Tiger dashboard Widgets. In addition to its other features, Unity makes use of the Novodex physics engine.
Currently two versions of Unity are available. Unity Indie is targeted at "developers on a budget", while Unity Pro provides a larger set of features for professional game developers. Unity Pro will eventually include support for "publish-to-PC" and other "collaboration features."

Computer And Video Games interviewed Lionhead Studios today on their new game titled Black & White 2. Black & White took the genre of RTS to a new level when it allowed players to choose to raise their minions in a peaceful era, or torture them under a cruel reign. Black & White 2 promises all that and more.

Peter Molyneux: Well the ambition has always been to create a game that anybody can play and you can play it in a nurturing role looking after your people and your creature. You can be all cute and fluffy and build your people, cities and playgrounds and gardens. It's a very female, nurturing growing thing. Or you can create [censored] great armies and go and destroy the entire earth. Combining those two things together makes a very new and interesting game. We've had the whole studio play and if you're female it's a very nurturing experience. If you're a guy, it's much more about going out to destroy!
So the clue's pretty much in the title? But how does the back story tie it all together?
Peter Molyneux: We wanted to give the player absolute power to go and do anything they want. So we put them in a story and the story is your Greek people are about to be wiped out by these all powerful Aztecs. As their god, you've got to take your Greek people back to controlling the world through either evil warmongering or peaceful means. You can build the most wonderful spectacular cities, or the most awesome powerful armies. That's the concept, you go through the story and you play all these different lands in any way you want to play them.
How it's changed from the original B&W - especially in the last year?
Peter Molyneux: What we did about a year ago - and obviously Ron's [Ron Millar, lead designer] got huge experience in RTS games - is create a blend between an RTS game and a god game and bring them both together. It's a lot funkier than B&W 1, which didn't have any RTS elements in it at all. B&W didn't really have any city building or the migration of peoples. It might seem like it's quite a lot the same, but there's a huge amount more mechanics blended together in B&W2.
