Mac Nvidia 6800 Q&A 9:03 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
Accelerate Your Mac has posted the results of an email Q&A with Nvidia, focusing on the Mac Nvidia 6800 Ultra DDL card. The card's power notwithstanding, one of the more talked-about features of the 6800 include its ability to drive Apple's new 30-inch Cinema Display. Topics touched on in the Q&A include both similarities and differences between the Mac and PC versions of the card. Of more interesting note is Nvidia's perspective when comparing their latest against ATI's X800 series: ATI has spun an old architecture and have done a very good job of squeezing the last bit of untapped performance from it and the drivers. GeForce 6 is a new architecture and we will have a lot more headroom than they will. We always give significant performance increases after we have leveled out the stability of the new architecture. GeForce 6 should continue that trend. Other key differences include: * We support shader model 3, they do not. * We support 64-bit floating point blending and filtering, they don't. * We are the first chip with an onboard video processor Other topics touched on include fan noise, how driver functions/updates are handled, and power requirements.

IMG Reviews Super Collapse! II 10:29 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
Inside Mac Games has posted a review of MacPlay's Super Collapse! II. Here's a clip from the review: uper Collapse II! stands out from other Tetris inspired games by the way a player progresses through the different levels. Advancement is based on the player’s ability to withstand a constant onslaught of cubes arriving on screen. If the cubes make it to the top of the screen, game over. So you must remove them by clicking on groupings of three or more similarly colored cubes thus creating a cascade of all the cubes above the ones removed. UT2004 'Asylum' Mod to Include OS X Installer 9:03 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
BeyondUnreal has noted that Asylum, an Unreal Tournament 2004 mod currently in development, will include both OS X and Linux installers. While not officially supported, the installers are coming courtesy of one of the Asylum team members: When the mod is finished, I am planning on simultaneously releasing installers for Windows, OS X and Linux. Only the Windows release will be "officially" supported though, mainly due to the fact that I am the only one on the team with a Mac and a Linux box. If there is enough interest in the community for the OS X and Linux version, the more time I will spend on it :) Asylum is a mod that has players experience psychological terror and loss of sanity as they try to survive. More information, including screenshots and model examples, can be found at Asylum's official site.
