Raider of the Desktops 4:24 PM | Johan Hansén | Comment on this story
To coincide with Aspyr Media's release of Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb, Brad Custer has released a new Indiana Jones themed desktop wallpaper for all to enjoy. Brad elaborates: With the recent announcement that Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb from Aspyr Media was gold, my mailbox has been full with one request. And being a fan of Indy since the early 80's I was more than happy to honor it. In this week's wallpaper I wanted to capture the feel of the classic movie posters. So, with the help of Aspyr Media and LucasArts, I was able to create this desktop. I simply entitled this feature, "Adventurer", and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. :) To grab the desktop wallpaper, head over to Brad's section here on IMG and select the resolution you want to use.

IMG Reviews Hearts of Iron 1:13 PM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
Today IMG has reviewed Hearts of Iron, the new strategy title from Virtual Programming and MacPlay. The game mixes real-time and turn-based strategy into a World War II setting that should please many fans of the genre. Here's a clip from the article: You also need to manage resources: food for your country’s citizens, rubber, oil and steel for production, supply lines for your troops. Need to ship rubber from South America? Make sure to surround your transport ships with lots of protection -- your enemies may have a tendency to torpedo your boats. Also be prepared to direct technological research and make sure it matches your strategy. No point making bigger boats if you never plan on using them. And you can aim for a country-stopping atom bomb, but you’d better be able to survive for several years while your top scientists develop it. For more on Hearts of Iron, be sure to read through the whole review. The game is available now from the IMG store as well if you're interested.

Freeware Game Adventure Elf Released 9:15 AM | Jean-Luc Dinsdale | Comment on this story
"Advergaming" designers Blockdot have released a new, Super Mario-inspired side scrolling game in time for the holidays - Adventure Elf. The free game pits returning hero Oliver the Elf, head foreman at the Kringle Toy Factory, against Frank and his team of evil Penguins, who are hell-bent on destroying the Christmas season by stealing all of Santa's toys from his sleigh. Running (and jumping) around the town of Kringleville, Oliver's task is to retrieve as many of the stolen holiday gifts as possible while also nabbing the nasty penguins responsible for the heist. Garish music aside, the game is a fun little pass-time for players looking for a quick gaming fix. The 4.3 meg, Macromedia Director-created game is available for free from Blockdot's game website. New Feral Game Bundles Announced 9:15 AM | Jean-Luc Dinsdale | Comment on this story
With a week to go before American Thanksgiving, the traditional start of the holiday buying season, Mac game publishers Feral Interactive have announced two new game bundles. The British company's Family Fun Pack contains four games fit for the whole family: Electronic Arts' Sim Theme Park gives users the opportunity to build their own theme park, complete with rides, animals, and all the popcorn and candy stores that go with it, and even allows users to experience their parks through a first person view. Herding "simulator" Sheep puts players in the shoes of intergalactic sheperds, herding the animals through 28 flocktastic levels, from gently-rolling grassy knolls to hazardous space scenes. Worms Blast, a Puzzle Bobble-style family game involving cartoony worm characters knocking multicolored blocks out of the air with their own personal bazookas, is also included in the bundle. The Zoombinis Island Odyssey, a new title for Feral, rounds out the package. In this logic and math skills educational title, players must help the cute little Zoombinis save their island from the clutches of their evil nemesis, the Fleens. Feral's Big Metal Box, aimed at more mature audiences, contains the gritty, graphic-novel based Max Payne, the third-person shooter about the undercover cover cop who's been done wrong. Black & White, the god game, puts users in charge of a little island, and are handed the task of overlooking their island paradise with the help of hand-raised creatures. F1 Championship Season 2000 puts players behind the wheels of their own state-of-the-art racing vehicle, while the controversial Oni, one of the last games to be produced by award-winning game developers Bungie Studios before their sale, chronicles the adventures of Konoko in her battle against the Syndicate and the search to uncover the truth about her origins. The Family Fun Pack, which has low system requirements of a 266 MHz G3, will run on both OS 9 and OS X natively, and will be available for $39.99 USD. The Big Metal Box combo, only available for European and Australian gamers, will require a 400 MHz G3 or higher with a 16 MB graphics card. The action package will retail for around 50 euros, with final pricing to be determined closer to the release date. Make sure to check out Feral's website for more information and to order these packages!
