Apple Examines Zoo Tycoon 7:19 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
Apple has posted a feature that takes a look at Zoo Tycoon. Ported by Westlake Interactive and published by Aspyr, the title puts players in charge of the building and administration a zoo. Players can start from the ground up, landscaping the environment and setting up exhibit areas before moving on to animal adoption and care. Besides looking at Zoo Tycoon itself, the feature also takes a look at two upcoming expansion packs, Dino Digs and Marine Mania: The same concerns about realism also played into the development of Marine Mania and Dino Digs, although the team decided this time to let guests get eaten by some animals. “The guests can outrun most of the dinosaurs, but if a T. Rex grabs one,” says Shawn Stone, one of the expansion pack designers, “that guest will be dinner.” Also included in the feature are a host of tips, tricks, and cheats for players looking for that extra edge.Zoo Tycoon was announced as going into duplication earlier this month. Those interested in ordering it can do so through the IMG store at the price of $48.99, with a $5 discount for IMG Pro or Mac Games CD subscribers.

IMG Previews No One Lives Forever 2 2:00 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
IMG has posted a hands-on preview of MacPlay's upcoming first-person shooter, No One Lives Forever 2. The highly anticipated sequel to the original game, No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way is a humorous story-driven first person shooter featuring deadly UNITY operative Cate Archer. Here's a clip from Eddie Park's preview: The story of NOLF2 takes place not too long after the first title. Still in the employ of the peace-loving organization known as UNITY, Cate Archer is now considered one of their top agents, and gets the respect afforded to one. The main director of UNITY has decided to take a much-needed vacation, leaving Cate's long-time mentor Bruno Lawrie as his stand in. This in itself leads to some laughs, with Bruno sending out memos pleading with fellow agents to stop addressing him as "Your Royal Highness" or "Most Exalted Leader. Be sure to check out the entire preview by following the link below.

Custer's Desktops: Aliens vs. Predator 2 7:19 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
This week's desktop, courtesy as always of IMG's own Brad Custer, focuses on the upcoming FPS Aliens vs. Predator 2. A followup to the original AvP, this title allows players to mix it up as a speedy Alien, powerful Predator, or a well-armed Marine. Featuring vastly improved graphics and several multiplayer games, AvP2 has been greatly anticipated by many in the Mac gaming community. The desktop features decidedly alien-looking artwork: Last Friday MacPlay announced that Aliens vs. Predator 2 was gold and would start shipping this week. Since then my email has been filled with requests for another desktop for this highly anticipated release. I was happy to oblige. In this week's wallpaper I wanted to capture the feel and look of the cover of the game. So, with the help of MacPlay's generous supply of art, I was able to create this week's feature. I simply entitled this selection, "Victorious", and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. Custer's latest is available in a variety of sizes at Custer's Desktops. Those who wish to preorder AvP2 can do so at IMG's store.

Shadowbane Fixes, Test Server, Patch Updates 7:19 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
UbiSoft has posted the latest iteration of The State of Shadowbane, which takes a look at issues and plans for both past and present. As many of the players of SB know, the game has not been without its share of troubles, and the team at Wolfpack seems to have been working furiously to address such inconveniences. Besides the ongoing battle to clear up login server and lag problems, they note that the duplication exploit is currently being addressed. They're currently suspending serious offenders and removing illegally obtained gold from the bank vaults. Also mentioned is the public test server, which will be put into use in order to test upcoming patches. Players who volunteer to use the server will gain a host of benefits, including accelerated leveling up, five extra character slots and a dedicated forum. However, they also note that, due to the server being a testing ground, performance may be sporadic, and information may be periodically erased. Of course, there are also details on the upcoming 1.0.8.7 patch, which will include the following features: - New higher-level adventure zones: We have added some higher level hunting grounds that include more rank 4 Mobs.
- Retraining through the Refiner hireling: Ever spend training points you wish you could take back? Utilizing the new Refiner hireling, you can now remove previously invested skill or power points—all for a fee, of course.
- Friends list: Now you can track the offline and online status of your friends and fellow adventurers.
- Performance monitor utility: This new utility will allow you to automatically maintain a given frame rate by disabling engine features when the frame rate falls under your desired preset.
Those interested in more information can find the full read at the official SB website.
