| Surround ... doesn't work for me ! |

The surround doesn't work for me. I'm using a M-audio FW410 interface wich have 8 output channels.
I did everything said to have 5.1 recognized (main audio out, set all things in Audio Midi setup app).
Games like Wow recognize it and send 5.1 sound. But Doom doesn't.
Instead the sound is awfull, noisy. It seems the M-audio interface can't sync or something with Doom.
The only other application that gives me the same result is Final Cut Pro. Others don't have this problem (Logic, Soundtrack Pro, Garageband, Wow, ...).
Since FCP have the same problem i wonder if it's an Apple bug in the OS or a coding incompatibility.
Help would be appreciated :) |

From my understanding, multiprocessor support needs to be built in from the beginning and since id never coded Doom 3 for multiprocessors, we will never see it for the Mac. |

they should get a patch that supports the dual processors in the g5s |
|
It just seems to me that it would be incredibly easy to have the second G5 processor encode the 5.1 openAL stream on the fly into DD and export it through the optical. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought this was what Glenda was talking about before when she said that Aspyr was looking into several codec options for surround sound. And yes, before you say it, a G5 can handle a single DD stream in realtime. |

the G5 doesn't have a dolby digital live encoder so it's never going to output Dolby-Digital from a live game.
the digital optical out is for Studio mixage and DVD video.
you'll need a 5.1Analog output to output 5.1 in games. |

I believe the 5.1 support means that folks with analog 5.1 connections will get 5.1. I don't think it'll work for the digital outputs. |

It would be very nice if the mac-community could play this mod or extension-pack.
But for now , i'm very happy with the long waited update 1.3.
Good work , Glenda and Aspyr. |
|
So does this mean we can pipe 5.1 out of our optical outs on our G5? Or are we limited to using analog cards with 5 speaker outputs. |

I hope the improved mod support means I'll be able to try the Coop mod. |

Just curious will that mod work with this update? Since most of us already have beatin' the game, playing something new/different would be nice |
|
We called it a 'preview' because some sound cards still give a little pop or hiccup now and then, and it seems the OpenAL and audio drivers aren't quite as mature on the Mac yet. It works very well, there were just a few glitches that made us not want to put it in as a 100% official supported path yet.

Yay for 5.1 sound! After getting mostly working surround with UT2004 (aside from the odd crash), I think all games should have it from now on.... But what does "Preview of OpenAL audio support for 5.1 sound" mean? Preview? |
